Caz Plak Proudly Presents:
Don Cherry Trio - The ORTF Recordings Paris 1971
Caz Plak is thrilled to announce the global release of "Don Cherry Trio - The ORTF Recordings Paris 1971," a vinyl LP that captures the legendary jazz musician Don Cherry in a sublime performance with his long-time Don Cherry Trio members: Turkish drummer Okay Temiz and South African bassist Johnny Dyani.
About the Album
Recorded at the iconic ORTF studios (Office de Radiodiffusion Télévision Française)for the Sound and Vision program in Paris in 1971, this remarkable LP features one of the paramount Jazz figures of all time, Don Cherry, interpreting Turkish rhythms.
This release serves as the sequel to Okay Temiz's magnum opus, 'Okay Temiz's Oriental Wind at Montreux Jazz Festival 1982' LP, released worldwide by Caz Plak in 2022, and is the second chapter of Caz Plak's 'Turkish Jazz Trilogy'.
"Don Cherry Trio - The ORTF Recordings Paris 1971" LP is particularly significant as it predates Don Cherry's groundbreaking "Organic Music Society" album from 1973, in which Okay Temiz also performed.
Production
The LP is produced by Haluk Damar and Erinc Guzel, the founders of Caz Plak, and is licensed from BYG Records, France. It is manufactured in Istanbul under the supervision of Mr. Okay Temiz, the sole living member of this iteration of the Don Cherry Trio. The recordings have been remastered by Okay Temiz & Mert Ucer from original material housed in BYG Records' vaults in France.
Limited Edition Release
"Don Cherry Trio - The ORTF Recordings Paris 1971" LP will be released worldwide in three limited vinyl LP editions, each hand-numbered and region-specific. The Turkish Edition features an unpublished photograph taken by the world-renowned photographer Ara Guler in 1969 as the cover art, and includes liner notes in Turkish and English, with a run of 1,000 hand-numbered copies. The European Edition boasts a 70mm analogue photograph of Château de Versailles by Erinc Guzel on the cover and offers liner notes in both French and English, limited to 1,000 hand-numbered copies. Finally, the Japanese Edition showcases a previously unreleased photograph by Ara Guler from 1969, complemented with an obi strip and liner notes in both Japanese and English, with only 500 hand-numbered copies available. All editions are pressed on heavyweight 180gr virgin vinyl and come with a gloss finished 350gr Bristol molded cover.
